Glimpse of yellow feathers
like a marigold.
He teases with his
brief presence
then soars to the tallest tree.

I discover the goldfinch
feasting rainwater
on the pink hummingbird feeder
bobbing his beak
like a pen in ink.

He stops, hops to a post
for a series of photos
fulfilling a wish
I’d held all summer—
this yellow bird
would pause and pose
before he wings to the sky.
