TO WALK IN THE WOODS BY JENNIFER GURNEY

To walk in the woods
of the Nature Center
where I walked
with you as a child

reminds me of how
I learned to love
the trees and
the birds and the flowers

and of how I passed on
that love to campers
whom I taught each summer there

and over the years
I’ve floated there
on the wings of my memories

so, to walk in the woods
of the Nature Center
where I walked
with you as a child

brings you back to me
and me back to earth
with the trees
and the birds
and the flowers

Jennifer Gurney lives in Colorado where she teaches, paints, writes and hikes. She is a newly published poet with nearly 300 poems published in 2022 and 2023.
