You saw
It first, under a sharp, clear Winter sky. All I
Had was knowledge –
That it was a rarity,
An evergreen, vine-like fern
With fronds like tiny hands-
I even knew its name in Latin:
Lygodium Palmatum.
But You
With eyes as quick as wit were the one to spot it –
Along with all the other things you
Saw first – and all the things you saw through for that matter,
All too numerous to mention.
And then there was that walk
Through the longest weeds of summer next to the stream.
We could just see humidity hanging in the air,
And you saw
It first, a shadow like a Red Fox,
Bounding away.
