Can they not see me
here in half shadows,
a languishing figure
on life-support,
sucking air from a tube,
my body unresponsive,
my brain on overdrive?
It was not supposed
to be this way,
this grief in five stages,
stages that loop and bend
and chase their mangy tails.
I was supposed to move on;
everyone said time heals all,
but what if it doesn’t?
What if I never heal
but just lie here—a vegetable
with a million pieces of heart,
and no one looks at my chart;
they just pull the plug?
