End of a one-note day
trees stand undecided

before lurching into dance
in a sudden shower

then stopping in a jiff with the rain
as if started on the wrong beat.

Rain again—one tree in a circle
moves, jump-starting others

for a full-on downpour
dashing yellowed leaves to dirt

as live twigs waving wet green
shoot down helter skelter—

taken, swept away, by the spirit
charged with water’s drumming.
