I stare into the candle
newly lit
and I realize
I am the light
I join the flame
as it flickers and dances
to illuminate
the dark room
I am the light
that I seek
in these dark times
my hope lifts me, even a fraction
I’ve been looking outside
for illumination and joy
but I had forgotten
to look within for light
