to live in a world quickly filling
with hate and injustice
when
each day’s headlines
stick in our craw
and the present and future
look bleaker and bleaker
because they are
and demonstrations
swell while laws are enacted
stripping basic rights and dignity along with it
and it is all-too-tempting
to give in to anger, distrust, dismay
and hopelessness
a song comes on the radio
and reminds me
of what I knew all along
all that we have is our soul
hunger for justice
for truth
