The leaf had come to the end of its journey.
I was there when it relinquished its grip
and began its aerobatic descent,
dipping and twirling
amid the confetti of leaves,
each unique in shade and shape
but together weaving
a perfect carpet of color and pattern
on the slumbering forest floor.
I was there
for this aerial dance of seconds
repeated untold times
for millions of years.
