Once it left me only to pine
With a heart defeated mad and sad,
So, every time I lift a glass of wine
Showing its true color so blood-red,
I drink it to what they call
Love, or whatever they may,
That’s been known to conquer all,
Leaving not much for you to say.
Kihyeon Lee was born, raised, and educated in the North Jeolla Province of South Korea. He studied German Literature at a university, and his English is mostly self-taught. He enjoys sauntering in the mountains and listening to classical music and opera.
I like it!
Wonderful! I can’t believe your English is mostly self-taught. Very impressive work.
This is a wonderful toast to Yates! This piece may be short and simple, but it holds a lot of depth. I’d say that this is a tad bit more darker than Yates’s A Drinking Song because you start off with a somber tone in the first two lines. I enjoyed reading this.
I love how the poem gave me the same imagery as Yeats original. It doesn’t feel like the type of poem to be shouted or pronounced harshly, nor an intense statement to be expressed heartily. It has a feeling of delicacy. To be spoken rather softly, as if no one is really supposed to hear it at all. I really enjoyed reading it
if you are referring to the Irish poet, his last name is spelled Yeats. Nice poem!
