we look for signs like Aegeus watching
for sails across those crisp blue sea caps
when that speck on the horizon resolves itself
that old familiar dread rises within us
uncertainty becomes a black sail
and all the darkness waiting in our heart
can turn grief into decision
into final mistake
that cannot be undone
the bones break
snapping open
the cycle anew
in the night I am on this
Aegean shore too
and all my sons are preceded
by black sails
the sea is coated
in black sail
but I will not break
these bones
though they splinter
the dawn will
see that those sails
were only shadow
cloth hidden from starlight
and bones can be reknit
