Their nerdy yellow trumpet
usually slighted in the Pacific Coast downpour
by hunched herds of windshield washers,
slanted brows, pursed lips,
now preside in the dry air
in the styles of great artists
with serrated, vibrating mouths
mounted and framed in the blue sky with blue birds
for all to admire
and the golden lives of dogs
