floating on your surface
with the sun against my skin
I am content
your tiny waves lift me
and swirl over my length
as I float crosswise to your waves
the children laugh and frolic
in your shallows
as I drift in peace in your deep
time is suspended
and passes effortlessly
as I float upon your surface
before I even notice
sun turns toward earth
in its gentle descent homeward
as the sun kisses
the water at earth’s edge
I float toward your shore
the sun is sinking lower
its brightness spilling outward
to the farthest reaches
as I gaze westward
on your brilliant expanse
I am home
