I will pretend it’s winter,
pretend I am a bear,
padding my cave with tufts
of mossy memories,
extra fat nestled inside
every cell for warmth
and survival;
I am not a quitter
but a respite seeker.
Behind closed eyelids,
behind the blue-white
sheets of snow,
I will rest, renew, restore
a heart
that holds the seeds
of spring.
