Working frog
Hops into labor,
Already stressed, anxious
Ignoring the indifferent
Vistas—
Magnolia
White,
Crimson,
Gas-swallowing impetus
That only knows two directions:
Right to the plant,
Left to the pad—
Katydids reach out for catharsis,
A human/animal connection —
Electric wire
In a shocked, open fist—
Thus, we jump.
Thus, we dream
Because it is what we are trained to do—
A human/animal connection.
Thus, the freshly cut
Lawn screams like a grief-stricken child
As I habitually go about my
Daily routine
Cutting, preening
Headphones drowning out the damage—
Bleeding, weeping
Conjugative
Tissue.
