My last visit was
Hard and yet magical too
As you grew your wings

No words were spoken
Through your parched, aged lips
Yet you spoke volumes

You grasped my hand
As I held you close, cuddling
You were fully there

I sang to you
Soft and gentle songs of love
As we lay there, close

Tears freely fell
As the meaning of the words
Came into focus

No words were spoken
Through your aged, parched lips
Yet your love was heard

You pushed me away
And though it was hard to do
I honored your wish

I have learned that
One can’t spread their wings on this
Journey when tethered

Letting go is grace
You gave freely all your life
Now it is my turn
