– For Edward Hopper

It’s the quiet time of night
Late and serious
Those who are lucky
Enough to be
With someone else
Speak in hushed tones
Without eye contact
Connections are tenuous
At this hour
Some have a job to do
And that speaks for itself
And some are just out
Alone, wherever they land
A diner’s as good a place as any
Coffee for company
Black mirror, if that’s your thing
And me, I’m just watching
There’s always a show at 3 a.m.
And even the bit characters are welcome
