an accident that occurred or is occurring,
bipedal, with hands stretched out, a gesture of yearning,
S-shaped vertebral columns supporting their bodies’
weight, propelled into forward locomotion
by big toes aligned with other toes,
arms and forearms shortened in relation
to the legs, making it easier to run
as they are starting to do, striving to over-
take us, to commiserate, their growing
brains increasing their sense of empathy
as they hurry with arms outstretched expressively,
to envelop us in their perpetual care,
a crowd pressing forward from god knows where
