on the edge
of the patio’s door
life wafts in

the cool morning air
mixes with last night’s
memories

while my cat
tentatively waits for
urban wildlife

perchance
a bunny, squirrel
or hungry magpie

to watch
tail twitching
ready to chase

a gentle breeze
blows the trees, casting
morning shadows on brick

tricking my cat
into heightened
alert

but lulling me
into sanguine
reverie

the shadows
dancing
to patio music

birdsong, traffic
and trash truck pick ups
accompany my coffee pot

as it
percolates
the new day

on the edge
of the patio’s door
life wafts in
