when the day begins
and hours unfurl before me
I feel rich in time

the day dawns
slowly, lazily
with coffee and a breeze

with endless time
to read, to write
to languidly start the day

but in a blink
morning has evaporated
into day

it’s already time
to head to the pool
to meet a friend to swim laps

the sun on my skin
weightless in the water
the day buoys me

what will
call my attention
next

garage sale-ing
a hike to the lake
or maybe painting on the patio

deadheading roses
several batches of jam
or brownies for a picnic

open-window days
playing the piano or stereo
with music lifting me

somedays
it’s hitting the thrift stores
in search of treasure

many days
I dive back into
reading or writing

catch-up calls
with Dad, my son, friends
keep me in the loop

errand-appointment days
and laundry-grocery-cooking days
make me feel productive

effortlessly
it is the edge of
evening

and time for
dinner with a friend
or solo repast

often it’s time
to search for live music
to fill my soul

or a thunderstorm
to count the seconds between
flash and boom

or couch time
to catch up on
a favorite show

although these summer days
begin diaphanously
with seemingly-endless time

they fly by so fast
with all my
summering to do

losing track of days
losing track of time
full, in the moment
