The sea sleeps
in deep, weary darkness.
She has held the moon in her arms,
carried the stars in wide, outstretched hands.
Yet when she awakes,
she will haul the sun once more
she will breathe life into the earth’s darkness
and swallow the debris at her feet.
She chokes.
She is not built for this.
Still, in the morning
She greets the world
With her warm embrace.
