Long ago, the French noticed how each wine
blended the soil, weather, the very aroma
of its provenance. As seashells retain
an ocean’s roar, so does every barrel
retain the region’s essence, appearance,
aroma: location in the vineyard.
Terroir ties forevermore a wine to
its origins. A graft once-severed will
reflect the place where it is brought. In my
own way a terroir has traveled with me
over decades, miles, and kilometers
in sounds, countless images, and faces.
Much have I savored on those paths but still
my personal terroir brings silent joy.
