White pinwheel towers line
the Salinas Valley, Altamount Pass.
Giant propellers spin in gusty wind,
transform breeze into electrical power.

Passing them, I think of Don Quixote,
deluded knight errant tilting manufactured monsters,
enemies created by foggy eyes, failing mind,
a pathetic joke to observers.

As climate change batters earth
with drought, wildfire, atmospheric rivers,
I sign petitions, write letters, wonder about the sanity
of rabidly insistent, misguided deniers.
