Because of broken children
Because of immigrants at the border
Because of forest fires turning towns into ash piles
Because of hurricanes and misplaced families
Because of school shootings and sheltering in place
Because of missing women of all colors
Because of partisan politics
Because of boarded up stores along Main Street
Because of never-ending wars
Because of the constant threat of terrorism
Because of pandemics, social distancing, and masks
Because of horrendous conditions at immigration centers
Because of homelessness
Because there’s no end to the depravity of humanity
