From a series of interviews with families of autistic children during COVID-19
Ever since I can remember
I looked after my big brother at home at school.
Teachers told me “Teddy’s having a bad day.”
What was I supposed to do?
Told my mom who told everyone what
a big boy helper I was.
I was only 10.
Now we twins are all grown up
but sometimes I think
I hate my brother
who’s not like other brothers
weird talking strange
in your face.
Go away.
But still conjoined.
“Look Ted can use the iPad.
Here’s how to post pictures.”
High fives laugh
together eat Dorritos
like when we were kids.
Both at the same time
joined under the same heart
beating beating.
