Like hammered silver,
the lake shimmers.
Clouds—white handkerchiefs
thrown across a blue sky.
Leaves and needles
twirl in the air—
a careless dance
to mosaic the lake.
Pine trees on the far shore
fade into moss green
while poplar and birch,
maple and oak flare
in reds and yellows,
oranges and browns.
Water laps the beach.
The dog rests in leaf-strewn sand
while I doze
in the middle of all this.
