I sit on my porch
and watch the clouds
clear. One by one

I mentally
lighten the
newly-blue sky

until I see
my grandfather’s eyes,
and in his eyes

I see the ocean
he spoke so
often of.

His Navy hat
positioned neatly
upon his head.

I spend the afternoon
with him, happily
lost at sea.
