(Indianapolis Indiana)

out my bedroom late-night window
sneaking to climb a wrought iron fence
only full-moon star-lit cold or warm nights
the hood dogs baying at their moon god
I wandered with my loving ghosts
meandering the night with history
criminals poets vice presidents governors
rich folk poor folk interesting folk
head stones foot stones crypts and tombs
sculptures of angels babes and doves
my feet touching the sod of souls beneath
as their spirits whispered peace to heaven above
I returned to my bedroom near dawn a bit of sleep
brief dreams of funerals and future ghosts
new stones tombs crypts and sculptures
next generation of hood dogs baying
full-moon star-lit nights
souls beneath the sod
spirits hovering in the sky
