Zeus lit the sky
to help guide my way
I think about how Adele set fire to the rain
and imagine driving over the Skyway Bridge consumed in flames
I remember a Sunday School song about God’s word being a lamp
I beg my headlights brighter
grip the steering wheel tighter
squint through the wipers
sliding feverishly on their highest setting
I gamble my destiny on worn-out rubber
Should I pray to the wipers?
It was God who supposedly flooded the earth, right?
My divine inbox is empty
and I can’t see Heaven’s gates
but I slow down
and pay
the toll
