If I could magically
Add days to the year
I’d do it midsummer

I’d love to stretch
This diaphanous time
To be longer

This fulcrum
Between the shores of school’s end
And the new year’s start

Is a magical time
Of relation
And renewal

The cool

With time to read
And time to write
And time to wake to the day

A hike to the lake
To visit my pelicans
And sit lakeside with ease

AN afternoon squall
To wash the day clean
And water my soul

There’s a freedom
That comes
With summer

Floating down the canyon
Dancing under the stars
Peacefully just being
