Because the world is shaped as an onion is shaped.
Because looking down from the top
it was assumed the whole ball was white.
The frozen sea.
The peaks of ice.
The endless slabs of snow.
If they had known
the whole world was not white
they would have abandoned their sleds that were difficult
across the desert
to cross.
