My first college day and with my luggage
up the steps to the secretary for the school’s president
She smiles You need the dorms, they’re ten blocks away
School work dominates – if I have to study I study
Then an intramural basketball practice
with my new friends and our walk back
Charlie says How about a beer at Yezzi’s?
Charlie and the guys start walking to the bar
I’m on the corner watching them
Just me that got off at the wrong place
Just me to choose between schoolwork or friends
Me with parents hundreds of miles away
Just me with choice
And the first raindrops
force me to choose
