First check the gas tank,
depress the upper bar,
then the lower, and begin in the corner.
Cutting down the green rectangle,
threaded with Creeping Charlie,
littered with twigs:
results will come.

Shake out the cuttings sometimes
or the motor will jam.
Ignore the cracking
unless it won’t stop.
Gradually the rectangle shrinks
as you go round and round,
a seamstress cutting a cloth to size
until it is all short, flat,
ready to be ironed.

Check the gas,
the air filter,
so it will be ready next time,
when all grows again.
But tonight it’s greensmooth
glowing in twilight.
