thousands of times, perfecting
a dangerous love song
that lures a mate and wakes
the hungry hawk. Still,
this feathered musicologist persists,
knowing that a singer
is as good as his song,
the melody a biography
and like any symphony
it eases pain and packs us
full of pleasure.
