Two black wafers
Separated by white cream
Have been my downfall
Throughout my life
As a child
Separate the wafers
Lick off the filling
With a glass of milk
As an adult
A comfort food
At my fingertips
Studying for exams
Watching television
Where are my Oreos?
Like a potato chip
Can’t eat just one
No longer with milk
Now-coffee, tea or diet cola
In a lifetime
How many have I eaten?
Thousands?
Tens of thousands?
How many calories consumed?
I have avoided the other demons…
Smoking, alcohol, drugs
Never an addiction
But that little sandwich of
Chocolate and cream
Has defeated me again and again
Then, some evil genius
Creates Cookies and Cream
As an ice cream flavor
Another temptation
Just when I try to get out-
They pull me back in
But then a sacrilege
They add a vanilla wafer!
Or worse, a peanut center!
How dare you defile
The Oreo!
Have you no shame?
