why am I staring
at a computer screen
in a pale blue room?
he joked
about my weight
(sensitive subject)
I joined a gym
you smiled at me
from the next bike
I smiled too
soon so in love
we couldn’t eat
I lost weight,
forgot about him
but not his joke
it’s why I’m sitting
in this blue room
with you
Phyllis Frakt turned to poetry five years ago after a long career in higher education. The absorbing and therapeutic qualities of poetry would have helped earlier! This transition has been eased by fellow poets at the weekly meeting of DVP/US 1 Poets.
