stepping into the room
my breath caught in my throat
from awe
and incredulity
an entire room
of VanGogh paintings
every wall
a masterpiece
I was transfixed
slowly moving
from painting to painting
I came upon
so many familiar
yet at once
brand new
his brush
touched this very
canvas
such beauty
such imagination
such ingenuity
and yet
only one painting
sold during
his lifetime
one
and now
he is perhaps the most beloved painter
of all time
if only
he could somehow know the value
of his art
I wish I could be
the person to tell him
someday
for now
I must be content with standing in awe
among his prodigious art
