little bird with absent eyes
you fell alone in the silent darkness
through the helpless fingers of the trees

discovering you this morning
among the new yellow blossoms in the garden
possessing all things needed to fly
but for a needed spark of heart

I cover you little one,
with a blanket of earth

on the long journey down from your promising nest
light as a new spring leaf
did you sway to and fro?

were you rocked
for a brief moment
in the arms of the wind?
