sitting in the park
with the cripples
and the maniacs
yammering redheads
laughing at mediocre jokes
on cell phones bedazzled
and Jamaican women
munching on salads
in hospital uniforms
and the pigeons are
fluttering above
the trucks bashing
against subway grates
an old dowager pushing
her walker as if the next
step might just be her last.
