When I wake and yearn
To write poetry at first dawn
I know I am home

Coffee in hand
Purring cats on my lap
I open my heart

Birdsong drifts in
Through the open window
As dawn gently comes

Springtime fills senses
With the warmth of new life
Bursting first slowly

Each day more newness
Arrives for all to enjoy
Flowers, young life, grass

Simple pleasures
Lain dormant for long winter
Reappear anew

Seeing them again
Makes me realize how much
I’ve missed new life
