Sitting on your shore I am home
Looking up I see the snow-capped peaks
In the distance and remember
The curve of the canyons
From the back of the Harley just last weekend
As we raced to outrun the latest summer squall
I remember the wind in my hair
The feel of raindrops on my skin
And the warmth of you in front of me on the bike
Today at the lake I am alone but not alone at all
Bringing my gaze closer
I see my reflection in you
As pelicans glide across your glassy surface
Hunting for lunch and reveling in the day
Silently they swim
To nestle in the reeds across the way
The sun is warm on my bare arms
As I relax by your side
It is peaceful here but filled with music
Owls sing to each other
Frogs croak from shore to shore
Crickets join the evening chorus
Making the music of the lake
As I sit solo on your shore I am at one with the lake
With the air
With the sun and sky
With the chorus
Of life teaming, growing, coming alive
And I am not alone at all
I am home
