I’m not ready
I want to slow down time
these last few days
till Christmas
to linger longer
in anticipation
in the meaning of the season

not for the hustle and bustle
but for the quiet
stillness of
incandescent times
and in the hope
of more to come

But instead
I’m teaching
with a cold
and my check engine light
comes on and
life’s challenges
are still here
every day

Instead of time
and stillness

So amidst
the frenetic pace
of December
I seek the cracks in time
for hope to descend

Perhaps on
winter solstice itself
the very fulcrum point
of winter
I will be able
to truly sense
hope descending
