I hope I haven’t
shattered the new trust
that we’ve tentatively forged
just three days
home from the shelter
you and I
for some reason
I had thought you were ready
for a visit to the vet
but I was
ever so
wrong
after a lengthy game
of hide and seek meets tag
you won
so we have cancelled
and stayed in, today
lesson learned
and I am relieved
beyond words
that you have forgiven me
and sit beside me
snuggling yourself closer and closer
with your tiny purr
