After ullie-kaye
Manicured bushes
beds of annuals
backyard with a garden
of green beans and tomatoes
Black shutters on white frame
curved cement steps
leading to a wrap-around porch
edged by rows of spindles
I have recollections
of the house called home
windows views
of my childhood world
Now I look forward to watering
and pruning my houseplants
marvel at nature’s transition
to the next season.
Now I smile at gardeners
working with soil
cheer for flowers growing
between pavers.
Now I admire the umbrella arc
of a weeping willow
walk through the woods
tapping the trunks of trees
Now I take photos of birds
aware of their colors
hope finches will again
build a nest in my hanging plant
