There I was at 21, an adult
who didn’t know how to be one.
Then a bride, thrilled, of course,
but ignorant of protocol.
I became a mother baffled
by a howling foreign species,
Then yet another transition
from student to professor.
My life is a maze of transformations,
unseen beginnings and uncertain ends.
No matter how far I travel
all the road signs read: detour.
